Upload photos to Facebook with Ubuntu Linux

Starry Hope Uploader makes uploading photos to your Facebook profile easy.
Once open, just drag and drop your images onto the uploader, choose or create an album for them to be part of and hit upload.

In Use

On first run you’ll need to connect your Facebook account to the application. As this is all done ‘in app’ it takes no-time at all; no browser windows, no copy-and-pasting of tokens etc..

Once connected you’re free to drag and drop images onto the application. Frustratingly there is currently no way to remove photos once added to the pool so do be sure on your choices prior to drag n’ dropping! ;)

Next up pick an album for your images to become part of or click the ‘New Album’ button to – get this for an expected twist – create a new album.
Once ready and able hit the ‘Upload Photos’ button/bar at the bottom to begin.

Don’t panic if the application ‘greys out’ during uploading process. It’s a known ‘bug’ however your photos will still upload providing you have patience.
To upload your images in ‘High Resolution’ head to ‘Edit > Preferences’ and check ‘Upload High Resolution Photos’.

A .tar.gz release of SHU is located @ this link, however most Ubuntu users will prefer to install using the official PPA.
A PPA is available for Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10 users to install from.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jimjimovich/starry-hope-uploader
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install starry-hope-uploader
Once installation has completed Starry Hope Uplaoder can be launched from the ‘Applications > Internet’ submenu.
Alternative ways of uploading photos to Facebook from the Ubuntu desktop include via Shotwell, F-Spot or even through Nautilus. Flickr users may also wish to read about Frogr and Orifli.
